This blog will show my artwork. As I finish paintings I will post them and tell a little bit about the painting. I will also (if I get around to it) post recordings of my shakuhachi playing, and the flutes I make. If anyone wants to buy my artwork or flutes, go ahead and e-mail me.
Here is a little blurb about me:
My name is Christopher Raymond Bogert, and I'm 23yr old. I recently graduated from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wa. For my last quarter I lived in Kyoto, Japan studying painting, drawing, and the shakuhachi flute. I majored in fine arts, with a major focus on watercolor painting. I also studied woodblock printing, shakuhachi and art history.
I have exhibited my artwork several times in the last couple years; in the SFCC gallery, and Maximum Exposure; Studio and Gallery. I continually sell my work on and off-line to people all over the country, and even a few pieces in Japan.
My shakuhachi history:
I have studied the shakuhachi for about two years now.
- My first teacher was Larry Tyrrell who gave me lessons in Olympia, Wa. Under Tyrrell sensei's guidance I learned Minyou pieces.
- My next teacher was/is James Hunter from Spokane, Wa. I began to learn Kinko ryu (Yamaguchi Goro style) honkyoku from Hunter sensei.
- Then I began to take lessons from Kurahashi Yoshio in Kyoto, Japan. Under Kurahashi sensei's guidance I began to learn Jin Nyodo style koten honkyoku and snakyoku pieces.
- Now that I'm back in the U.S. I've joined the weekly grouping of shakuhachi players. We get together every Friday (Spokane, Wa).
- I got a job back in Japan, and will leave in mid-late April to live for a year and study under Kurahashi sensei (I hope).
Well that is all for now. Keep checking back and I will post things every once in a while.
